Day 31 – Oct 6, 2018

Stayed at the Aberdeen Marina, Aberdeen MS last night. Friendly people, and an interesting ride in and out from the main River, but the place needs a lot of work.

We met Steve there. He’s kayaking the Great Loop for charity. You can follow his journey at paddlewithsteve.com.

Shared the Lock with Steve this morning.

This is a junction of the original Tombigbee River to the left and the reconfigured Tenn-Tom waterway to the right. The Army Corps of engineers in the 70’s widened and eliminated some of the meandering Tombigbee River to make it more accessible for barge traffic.

It’s still a very neat place with lots of birds.

Residential developments along the Tenn-Tom.

Still a wild place. Further we go, the more “River like” it becomes. The clouds remind us that we’re getting closer to gator country. We’ve crossed into Alabama.

Stopped in a side channel for the night near the SS Nonni pleasure craft. We’ve traveled near them for several of the past days.

A long day. 72 miles today – 1304 miles total.

Final crew change tomorrow!
